As summer draws to an end, Solicitor Assist decided to welcome September by hosting the official ‘Solicitor Assist Office Bake-Off’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. With a highly competitive team, the pleasant, light hearted coffee morning soon turned into a serious competition and Tony was appointed as Solicitor Assist’s very own Mary Berry.
Who made what?
First off, our resident master baker, Kat made a collection of sugar cookies which were beautifully shaped and decorated. Expectations are always high when it comes to ‘Kat’s Cakes’, but she certainly didn’t disappoint.
Next came Charlie’s Oreo cupcakes which certainly had no soggy bottom, but a crunchy bottom with a secret baked oreo inside – very clever indeed and extra marks for creativity!
Some people really went to town and made two options – Nicole went for savoury and sweet, making an incredible Foccacia bread with pancetta and caramelised onions, as well as some delicious dark chocolate, coconut flapjacks (top marks!)
Having a reputation for once faking a bake off and receiving some stick in the office, Jane proved herself to be a top baker with this homemade orange and lemon clementine cake as well as fruit loaf bites and coconut bites. You’ve proved your point, Jane!
Making too many things for us to photograph, Hayley took inspiration from Delia, baking a savoury ploughman’s tart, a peanut and dark chocolate tart and an incredible orange blossom cake, very nearly swiping first, second and third place!
You can’t go wrong with a brownie! Sarah made a last minute decision to make personalised chocolate chip brownies which proved a hit in the office but not on the white surfaces in her kitchen.
And the winner…
Dark horse Chrissy, who apparently hadn’t a clue how to bake, blew us all out of the water with these Solicitor Assist Bake off, candyfloss flavoured unicorn cakes. They tasted as good as they look.
And the prize? Pride.
(and a team night out for a lovely dinner and some drinks!)
